About this work
Aria tutti is Bach's original subtitle for the final chorus from the Köthen Funeral Music ("Klagt, Kinder, klagt es aller Welt"). This chorus is better known as the final number of the St. Matthew Passion, and its meaning is somewhat altered by its initially contradictory genre definition. An aria is something purely personal, while tutti belongs to everyone and is expressed by everyone: imagine that anthologies read "we remember a wondrous moment." I generally like to exist in between – chorus and solo, affect and structure, contrast and similarity, and so on. In these gray areas – which call into question the very existence of poles – I tried to navigate my work, like a submarine.
